The map shows links from the Wikipedia site, ”Violent Video Games Controversy”.

The site is linked to more than 30,000 other sites, most shown by nodes on this map. In the middle is seen the base for the controversy. The different colors on the map each represents it’s area of interest connected to the based controversy. On this particular map, six areas of interest are framed, as they inparticualr are interesting. On the far left is show a cluster of red nodes. This cluster is descriping the different types of games existing, and all written about in Wikipedia. The types are such as ”First person shooter”, ”Arcade”, ”Flight Simulator”, ect. This is interesting, as this somehow visualises how variating a game can be. Just next to the red cluster is a yellow cluster, and below that a blue cluster, both framed. These clusters represent respectively the games “Mortal Kombat”, and “Final Fantasy”, the the universe surrounding those games. These are both extremely violent games. The interesting is that these two games, together represent about 8% of the total map, and there by let the viewer know which games are popular subjects, in Wikipedia that is. Both games are not shooting games, but games where the player fights other characters, with martial arts or swords. On the far right of the map is a big pink cluster which also is framed. This cluster represents the area of gender. The cluster it self is divided into two separate clusters, of almost equal size. The two nodes dividing the cluster “Hate Crime”, and “Heterosexism”. Value wise the two groups doesen’t differ, and both contain terms such as “pregnancy” and other non value based gender terms, but also focuses on discrimnation, minority groups, and violence. Interesting is also that between the Base node and the Gender cluster, are gathered nodes about school shootings, and the names of terrorists. This shows that Wikipedia writers connect school shootings and some areas of terrosism with violent video games and gender issues such as hate crime and discrimination. Lastly is the green framed cluster, representing countries and public institutions. Intersting about this is it’s position in the map between the main controversy and the Gender frame, and thereby also with the nodes concerning school shootings and discrimination. Again showing that the many writers see that connection.
